IT Project Portfolio Manager (gn)

Challenging group position at an Austrian Corporation - Employed in Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland or UK

We are seeking an experienced IT Project Portfolio Manager to establish and lead our Program Management Office (PMO) and to oversee the management of all IT projects across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for prioritizing, overseeing, and streamlining the execution of IT projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives, and enhancing project visibility across the organisation.

Your main tasks

  • Establish a Program Management Office (PMO) and centralise all IT projects
  • Develop and implement a robust IT project portfolio management process to prioritize and manage projects with IT involvement
  • Minimize distractions for IT "Run" resources by establishing clear guidelines on project execution
  • Manage Project Portfolio and Dependencies and prioritise projects based on business needs, resource availability, and strategic alignment
  • Ensure dependencies between projects are effectively managed to avoid resource conflicts and project delays
  • Oversee Project Completion and Termination and establish a handover process to transfer completed projects to the “Run” organization
  • Implement the IT Project Demand Process
  • Develop a transparent, efficient project demand process with clear guidelines
  • Enforce regular, transparent IT project progress reviews, ensuring that project status and key milestones are clearly communicated to all stakeholders
  • Monitor project performance and ensure timely interventions when issues arise
  • Strengthen Stakeholder and Risk Management
  • Educate and support project managers within BU and IT on the importance of effective stakeholder engagement

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in IT project management, portfolio management, or program management
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and best practices (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, PRINCE2, or PMP certification is a plus)
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Microsoft Project, Jira, or equivalent)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills to assess project risks, dependencies, and performance metrics
  • Proficient in English (C1 level)
  • Travel requirement is apx. 60% for meetings wit BU Leaders, especially in the beginning of your journey
